January 19, 2007Friday

Thanks to everyone’s prayers and special thoughts Robert made it thru surgery just great. The doctor said that everything went well. The surgery lasted 8 hours and the mass was the size of a grapefruit. There are still 2 places on the back of Roberts tongue, but the Doctor said chemo. And radiation would treat that area, so Robert could keep his tongue. The mass invaded his jugular, so Dr Oxford removed a nerve in Roberts left leg to replace the jugular and he removed muscle out of his chest to protect the carotid artery. When Robert was in recovery the nurse broke the rules and allowed Cassie and I to go back to see him. We were very grateful for that. We found him pretty out of it and he could barely speak, but first thing he wanted to know was if Mick was there? We said yes and he said to tell Mick “This was the hardest Trail he has been on so far”. We finally got in his room at 10:00pm. Robert was alert and talkative. Robert so far has managed his pain very well. He is up sitting in a chair for the first time, and drinking a smoothie. They are suppose to come and get him to start his therapy on his shoulder, due to removing the nerves and muscle. Robert said to tell everyone he sure is glad he is thru with that trail and ready for the next. Robert’s attitude has been so wonderful. He told Sandi she would make a pretty good nurse if Mick could ever get her to work. Lisa Wood and Lisa Garvin, we went thru his gift basket this morning and he was exhausted, had to take a nap after looking at EVERYTHING you guys did for him. We can never thank you enough. He loved it all. We love everyone and thanks again. Will keep you updated on how the therapy goes.

I was very glad to see how good you looked too.. looks like much swelling has gone down.. I am wondering though if it is makeup Judy may have put on him to be sure he looked nice for that pic. She said last night she wasn't taking a pic until she fixed his hair... she is such a sweet wife and nurse. Robert you are one of the manliest men I know after seeing what you went through and how well you did yesterday. I also want you to know that even though this trail is tough that you have many people that care so much about you and will be glad to help you along the trail when it gets too tricky.. Judy the same goes for you.. I Luv You Guys.. God Bless You Both and Your Awesome Family and Friends..

I just want to tell you that I am so proud of you both. You are taking this very well and handling it with the greatest of confidence and we all can learn from your experiences. Robert, you are so positive and eager to take your challenge head on without a minute to waste. And as a patient you are a nurses dream....because you respond to suggestions, tasks, or treatments without any hesitation or frustation. And that is why I have no doubt that you will overcome this setback.
So now....
I am on my way to bed and hope you know that I already miss you both and know that when I fall asleep I will be thinking ..."Robert, do you need a sip of water? some more lip balm? are you hurting? are you comfortable? And Judy...why do I feel so bad for leaving you??? Did you take you medicine? Do you need another blanket? or maybe a cookie?? :)
Or to put it another way...I love ya'll!!!
:)

Lisa Garvin...thank you so much for all the treats you brought to the hospital...and Joe...those little shirts for Oscar are too cute...Robert is jealous he didn't get one.

Lisa Wood....thank you too for your gifts to everyone. My socks are so comfortable and I have them washing so I can wear them again.

Robert and Judy....how fortunate you must feel to have such caring and thoughtful friends. Can I borrow them if something ever happens to us??? Ha!!
Hope this day is a good one for you. And Robert...you stay positive and keep smiling (even if it is a tiny bit crooked for the time being).
Love ya'll... :)

From Grandpa Tucker:

Grandpa Tucker (mad jap)says keep up the good work trailblazer! You are doing great and I know you will continue to do so. Please don't get in too big of a hurry it's just Saturday. Take it easy for another day or two. Tomorrow or monday will be about right for you to get your ass up and get with the program. We have stuff to do you know! Did you wash our wheels and get the mud off the cat and jap? I hope you did, so we can load up and fire up. I'll gas em (you can sit in the truck). That should give us monday p.m. and tuesday to ride. We could go wednesday to if you had made the chemo treatment for late in the afternoon. Oh well, maybe once you come out of the ether you can start scheduling the time better.
